Overview. Founding Farmers is a DC classic. They offer an extensive farm-to-table menu with all the comfort food favorites. Their creative cocktails are crafted with house-distilled spirits. Dining here is always an enjoyable experience. Founding Farmers has a good reputation for a reason. We Yelped 5/5 stars.

Ambiance. Contemporary and stylish décor.

Service. The server was friendly and attentive. The servers always go into the brief history of restaurant’s beginnings. The restaurant stays busy but you won’t wait excessively for your food.

Drinks. The hand-crafted cocktails are the way to go. I had the Farmer’s daughter, and Jake had a bourbon sour. Both cocktails were flavorful and well-balanced. The bourbon sour had a bit too much ice. The hard cider on the menu that we ordered was actually discontinued, so we were disappointed about that.

Food. The skillet cornbread is a must-have! We branched out this time and ordered the smoked salmon ciabatta and the bacon wrapped dates as starters. The smoked salmon app was served over egg salad and toast with goat cheese. I was not sure what to expect with the egg salad, but the dish was much better than I was anticipating. The bacon wrapped dates were to die for! The sweet and savory combination hit the spot. For an entrée, I ordered the scallops meuniere, which were served over butternut squash risotto. The scallops were tender and delectable. Jake ordered the boneless ribeye (rare) with mashed potatoes and macaroni and cheese. The macaroni was the highlight. He enjoyed the rare steak, too.

Desserts. The cake slices are thicc! I highly recommend the carrot cake. The Butterscotch Bread Pudding was good, but basically tasted like extra-rich French toast.

Positives: Reliably good food and service! Reasonable prices for the quality and quantity of food. We both had left-overs. Great place for date night or to take visiting friends and family.

Negatives: We did have to ask for a new set of silverware because the first set we got did not look fully clean from the dish washer. The second set was fine, and the waitress apologized for the accidental dirty utensils.

Will we be back? Yes, of course!
